BRECHT BERTOLT summary
Brecht Bertolt, a great poet, author play write and actor to ever come out of Germany. Being born into Bourgeoisie life style was funny enough anti bourgeoisie, which at times caused a tumultuous relationship between him and his dad, as for his mom he was bonded to her. The two shared the fact that they both suffered from ailments she breast cancer him an illegitimate heart. He eventually had a heart attack but that never stopped this creative character Brecht is said to be that thing that broke the mold. He defied everything the Nazi’s stud for and was bold about it especially in his writing. Well educated in Latin, philosophy and finally in medicine breach travel around a lot and whether he had the job as a writer working for his school magazine or writing and editing the local newspapers you can be sure he was going to give his true opinion about what was going on in Germany.
A man who sees another man on the street corner with only a stump for an arm will be so shocked the first time he'll give him sixpence. But the second time it'll only be a three penny bit. And if he sees him a third time, he'll have him cold-bloodedly handed over to the police.

Plot – murder
Theme - chauvinism and discrimination to suit the era of play
Justice - letter of the law vs. the spirit of the law
- Lots of ambiguity = grey line
= no clarity
Mrs. Peters - married to sheriff
- Dynamic character
- Doesn’t want to tamper with evidence
- She is round but complex
- QUEER – something that’s not right, like a strange thing
Mrs. Hale - she is dynamic because she didn’t change her opinions till near the end
- She is round
THE BIRD IS A SYMBOL IN THIS PLAY
Housing - play is set in the kitchen in the farm with a back door
- Back door refers to breaking the privacy
- Table, roller towels = men refer to her having a roller towel as
being lazy
- Fruits exploding she didn’t have time to take care of them
- QUILTs – damaged quilting shows that she was either nervous or
something bothered her.

-Was of european afrikanese discent
-used african drama as political tool in his works to drive messages
-born in middleburg S. Africa in 1932
-Full name Harold Athol Lanigan Fugard
-He is part white with English Afrikanese parents
-brougth up in port Elizabeth S. Africa as english as main language
-went to university in Cape town and dropped out before his Final exams
-hitch hike through africa, then became a deck man on a ship and sailed the world
-became engulfed inthe acting after marrying his wife who influenced him, he then wrote many famous plays that sets the seen of africa in the apatheid
-he wrote alot on apartheid and post apartheid
-created characters with sstrengths and weaknesses which make them unable to fit into societies premise, but wrote on dominant women
-likes to write on secretes with powerful effects on human behavior and trauma
-influenced by strasburgs acting method
-first play "no good friday" and first wrote about his contries tormented racial history
