I can't say I like reading very much am more of a talker / discussion kind of girl so reading TRIFLES was both painful and mind blowing. So here I go. It seems in the first scene of Trifles the description of the house kind of painted a picture for me. There wasn't any dialogue as of yet but just the description of an abandoned farm house belonging to someone by the name of "John Wright". I put two and two together an knew that something bad happened to John Wright when the author wrote in her scene " the kitchen in the now abandoned farmhouse of John Wright, a gloomy kitchen, and left without having been put in order--unwashed pans under the sink, a loaf of bread outside the bread box........" then when the author said the law was involved. "At the rear the outer door opens, and the Sheriff comes in, followed by the county Attorney and....." Let's face it we all watch detective shows or television period an when the law is at the door you know something is up and the dreary description of the house tells a story of its own, a story that something bad went on in that house. The house was cold, dirty not well kept. There was no mention that the house was once a happy home also leading me to think that it may never have been filled with joy or laughter.
